Here's the short version: Virgin Voyages is the most different-feeling cruise line at sea, and whether that's wonderful or wrong for you comes down to one question — do you want a vacation with zero kids and zero cruise-ship clichés? We're Virgin-certified agents, we've sailed Scarlet Lady twice, and this is the guide we wish we'd had before our first sailing.
Book Virgin if you…
- Want an adults-only (18+) ship, full stop
- Are a couple or friend group, honeymooners, or celebrating something
- Care about food — it's genuinely restaurant-quality, and all included
- Hate buffet lines, formal nights, and stuffy dress codes
- Like a late-night vibe: parties, live shows, a real nightclub
Pick another line if you…
- Are traveling with anyone under 18 — no exceptions, ever
- Want waterslides, ropes courses, and poolside belly-flop contests
- Prefer a traditional main dining room with the same table and waiter nightly
- Want a quiet, early-to-bed cruise — Virgin's energy runs late
(Ask us about Royal Caribbean or Carnival instead — we've sailed those too.)
What Makes Virgin Different
Richard Branson built Virgin Voyages to be the anti-cruise cruise. The differences aren't gimmicks — they change how the whole vacation feels:
- Adults only, fleet-wide. Every sailing, every ship, 18+. The pool deck is loungers and DJs, not splash zones.
- No buffet, no main dining room. Instead: 20+ restaurants and eateries — Korean BBQ at Gunbae, upscale Mexican at Pink Agave, The Wake steakhouse, a nightly-changing Test Kitchen, and a food hall (The Galley) for casual bites. Every single one is included in your fare.
- Most of the "extras" are included. All that dining, plus gratuities, basic WiFi, group fitness classes, and essential non-alcoholic drinks. The fare looks higher than other lines until you add up what they charge extra for — then Virgin often wins.
- The details are fun. Cabins have mood lighting and (in Sea Terrace rooms) the famous red hammock on your balcony. There's a tattoo studio at sea. There's a button in some suites that summons champagne. Scarlet Night — the signature deck party — is worth packing something red for.
The Fleet
Virgin's four "Lady ships" are near-identical sisters — around 2,770 sailors each, mid-sized by modern standards, which keeps them easy to navigate but big enough to have it all. Pick your ship by itinerary, not by ship:
| Ship | Debuted | Our take |
|---|---|---|
| Scarlet Lady | 2021 | The original — and the one we've sailed twice. Caribbean staple sailing from Miami. |
| Valiant Lady | 2022 | Twin sister to Scarlet; splits time between the Caribbean and Europe seasonally. |
| Resilient Lady | 2023 | The globe-trotter — Mediterranean summers and far-flung repositioning voyages. |
| Brilliant Lady | 2025 | The newest Lady, adding U.S. departure ports beyond Florida. |
Itineraries and home ports shift by season — tell us your dates and we'll tell you exactly which Lady is sailing where.

Is Virgin Voyages really adults only?
Yes — every sailing is 18+, fleet-wide. No kids' clubs, no exceptions. It's the whole point.
What's included in the fare?
All 20+ restaurants, gratuities, basic WiFi, group fitness classes, and essential non-alcoholic drinks (soda, juice, tea, drip coffee, still & sparkling water). No surprise service charges at the end.
Is there a dress code or formal night?
No formal nights, no dress codes. Come as you are — though most sailors dress up a little for dinner because the restaurants feel like real restaurants. Pack something red for Scarlet Night.
Does booking through you cost more than booking direct?
No — same price or better. Virgin pays us, not you. You get a certified agent who's been aboard, watches promos and price drops, and handles everything if plans change.
How does Virgin compare to Royal Caribbean or Carnival?
We've sailed all three, so ask us! The one-line answer: Virgin for adult couples and friend groups, Royal Caribbean for big-ship thrills and families, Carnival for budget-friendly fun. Every crew is different — tell us who's going and we'll match you honestly.
